WITH ONE FOOT FIRMLY PLANTED IN THE PAST, Williamsburg offers families a
memorable trip at a reasonable cost. The average flight costs about $331 per person, according to Hopper. And hotels are cheap, averaging about $118 a night—about 24% less than the national average, according to data from Hotels.com.
Attractions won’t set you back too much either. Single-day passes to Colonial Williamsburg, including access to the site’s living history museum—where guests can experience what life was like in the Colonial era—are about $41 for adults and $20 for children under age 12. You can climb aboard 17th-century ships at Jamestown Settlement, less than 10 miles away from historic Williamsburg, for $23 for adults ($12 for kids).
Then try a dinner at one of the 18th-century style taverns, such as the King's Arms, where along with $30 entrees, guests are treated to waiters in period costume and a reciting of the "news of the day.”
Take a day or two away from historic exploration to get in some thrills at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. A one-day ticket to this sprawling amusement park costs $80 per person for those 10 and older. A new, Viking-themed wooden roller coaster, InvadR, is opening in April and promises riders a 74-foot plunge and speeds of up to 50 mph.
