Egyptian police say a man wielding a knife has stabbed 2 German women to death and
wounded 4 other foreign tourists at a Red Sea resort in eastern Egypt.
Police detained the man after he carried out the attack at a hotel beach in Hurghada on Friday. The assailant's motive is being investigated.
Police say the man swam from a nearby beach to gain access to the attack site. They say the injured tourists were transferred to a hospital.
In a separate incident on Friday, 5 police officers were killed when gunmen stormed their car near Cairo, the country's capital.
No one has claimed responsibility for the 2 incidents.
The Islamic State militant group has carried out a series of assaults in Cairo and on the Sinai Peninsula, targeting Christians, military personnel, and police officers.
